Combus Mountains discovered! Experience awarded.

“Cool.”

Another hour of intense heat, or at least it felt like an hour, until finally another threshold was in sight. Aegis preemptively doubled over to prepare for the next shift.

The air changed again, back to what Aegis would deem normal, but the landscape was another story entirely.

Egbar Moat discovered! Experience awarded.

Aegis peered down to see massive donuts of dug up grass filled with river water. The trenches must’ve been quite deep for them to be so perfectly visible from these heights, like crop circles, only with huge castles at the center of many of them. What’s more, far ahead there seemed to be a giant island that held not one structure, but an entire city’s worth.

“Whoa.” He couldn’t believe his eyes. Seles-inspired towers, long draw-bridges, great white-brick pathways. It all made for a view of grandeur.

“See there, that’s BlackStie Port, a great city of trade,” Oofan shouted over the winds. “Those castles we passed by are guild houses built for ease of access to these parts. Prime real estate.” Oofan rubbed his fingers together to indicate big money.

Aegis nodded. “So if we hadn’t found the Glyph Ward, we would’ve had to take a boat to get to the castle?”

“Hiking over mountains, boating through the maze you see before you, all sorts of hairy adventure. Usually I would encourage such exploration, but it seems you guys have a mission involving that Memory Charm, so what better way to be of service than to get you there safely.”

They soared over the city of high spires and busy streets. Aegis thought he could make out tents and stands and bustling all over the market square. It looked fun actually, kind of like Auction Avenue only on a much bigger scale. But soon thereafter the city was behind them, fading away into the fog to make way for a more ominous land. These castles were darker, unlike any of the others they’d passed over before.

One had what Aegis could only describe as a purple shooting star orbiting around its tower. Another was forming black clouds overhead similar to how a krenik would. He had no idea what was going on, or how anyone would survive this area at such a low-level, but one thing was for sure – the atmosphere turned dark and dreary, fast.

“Those are high-level dungeons. I know you’re activating abilities beyond your level and all, but don’t go getting any ideas at places like these, at least not for a while, aye?”

Aegis leaned in to be sure Oofan could hear. “Wouldn’t dream of it!”

“Alright now, hold on!” Oofan yelled.

Just as he said the words, the gryphon cawed and dove headfirst into the blackest cloud Aegis had ever seen. He held on for dear life, the thickness of the air making it feel like a giant was trying to hoist him off his seat from under the arms. His head lurched back, hair blowing in all different directions, and bolts of lightning streaked right in front of him to scare him senseless.
